What is Intelligent Document Processing?

Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) is an advanced technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and business process automation to process and manage documents in organizations.

The main goal of IDP is to enable companies to efficiently collect, analyze, classify and extract information from various types of documents, such as invoices, contracts, forms and emails.

Key elements of IDP are text recognition (OCR), natural language understanding, machine learning and automatic document categorization.

Effective content search

The distinguishing feature of the proposed DoRIS solution is, in addition to advanced content extraction algorithms, a wide range of mechanisms that allow the user to get to the information he needs:

Search for documents using metadata (date of creation, author, title, tags and other attributes of studies).

Full-text search, based on the text layer of the sources, taking into account the variety of Polish and English words.

Semantic search, which does not require a phrase from the document, but refers to the meaning layer (e.g., searching for invoices by search term accounting document).

Smart development of the knowledge base

Users can co-create the knowledge base by entering their own tags, completing the list of key phrases and abstracts. Documents can be grouped into "virtual folders" defined by system users, showing the contents in a traditional hierarchical folder structure.

With each new document placed in the knowledge base, the system learns the knowledge domain, which is reflected in the reference databases of proper names, keywords, generated answers to questions, or recommendations of interesting content.

Integration with chat

The system is equipped with a conversation module, which allows you to ask a question and receive a response in natural language (chat). In the current version of the product, the Chat module requires a subscription to Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service.

The system responds to the user based on the knowledge extracted from the source documents that populated the system. This gives the user the ability to pinpoint the sources on the basis of which the answer was generated, and eliminates generic or even erroneous answers generated by universal models trained on public document corpora.

The process of answering is one carried out by generative artificial intelligence models: this is the term used to describe a class of artificial intelligence models whose task is to generate "new content" (graphical, textual, musical), with features that resemble human-created content.

DoRIS can be deployed on an organization's hardware resources (on-premise) or made available in the cloud on a subscription managed by the customer.
